A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called to the Green Star pub on Esperanto Way, Smallthorne, Stoke-on-Trent, at 10.15pm on 31 December to reports of a large fight.

"Officers attended are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved." They later confirmed to The Sun that officers raced to the pub to prevent the brawl from spilling over any further.

No arrests were made at the scene of the scuffle though video footage of the fight showed people leaping out of the way and trying to make their way away from the fight.

Punters were seen leaping away from the men who were throwing furniture and the Christmas tree at one another, leaving the place a bloodied mess of chairs and cutlery.

They later wrote: "Get it in landscape and it has the gritty realism of the early Bourne movies!"
